Food & Beverage

Water quality has a direct impact on the quality and safety of food products. At the same time, management of the entire water recycle across the value chain has become an imperative, notably for consumer brand owners.

Our team has deep expertise in designing water and wastewater treatment systems integrated with resource recovery, such as extracting nutrients and energy potential in wastewater. Our clients include multinationals and major local companies operating in the following segments:

  • Centralised kitchen

  • Packaged food production

  • Beverage production and brewery

  • Meat, dairy and agricultural processing

Success Cases

WASTEWATER RECYCLING FOR PACKAGED FOOD MANUFACTURER

Location: Singapore
Industry: Food and Beverage
Solution:

  • Industrial Wastewater Treatment

  • Smart Water Management

  • Water as a Service

This factory in Singapore produces a wide range of beverages for local and international markets. As part of its sustainability goals, it was seeking to reduce its water footprint through recycling of its wastewater onsite.

Our team provided the installation and commissioning of a wastewater recycling system made up of a combination of Dissolved Air Flotation, High Efficiency Biological (Anaerobic and Aerobic), Ultra-filtration and Reverse Osmosis processes. This system is able to cater to high fluctuations in flow rates and wastewater profile due to changes in sales patterns and production cycles.

As a result of the project, the factory is capable of recycling up to 600 m3/day of wastewater to potable-equivalent quality for reuse in cooling tower operations.

WATER AUDIT AND RAINWATER HARVESTING FOR MULTINATIONAL BEVERAGE MANUFACTURER

Location: Singapore
Industry: Food & Beverage
Solution:

  • Water Audit & Efficiency Assessment

  • Rainwater/Urban Water Harvesting

  • Ultrapure Water

  • Industrial Wastewater Treatment

  • Water Recycling & Reuse

  • Resource Recovery

  • Smart Water Management

As part of its sustainability targets, this multinational company is continuously seeking to reduce its water consumption per unit production. Nexus Ecosystems Team conducted a comprehensive review of the usage of water within the factory and identified opportunities to increase recycling rates and recover resources at the same time.

Further to that, we designed and implemented a system to harvest and treat rainwater with Ultra Filtration membranes for cooling tower make-up. The cumulative result is the potential to reduce up to 40% of potable water consumption through a series of financially-viable interventions.
